  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (sauce)
  • 0.25 cup water or beef broth (sauce)

Aromatics

  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 0.5 bell pepper red bell pepper
  • 1 tbsp black pepper sauce (sauce)

Sauces & Seasonings

  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce (marinade)
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (marinade)
  • 1 tsp cooking oil (marinade)
  • 1 tsp sugar (sauce)
  • 0.5 tsp dark soy sauce (sauce)
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (sauce)

Other

  • 200 g asparagus

Instructions

  1. 1

Marinate the beef slices with light soy sauce, cornstarch, and cooking oil for at least 15 minutes.

  2. 2

In a small bowl, combine oyster sauce, black pepper sauce, sugar, dark soy sauce, water or beef broth, and cornstarch. Mix well to form the black pepper sauce mixture.

  3. 3

Heat cooking oil in a wok or large frying pan over high heat until smoking. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry quickly for 1-2 minutes until just browned on the outside. Remove beef from the wok and set aside.

  4. 4

In the same wok, add minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant. Add asparagus and red bell pepper (if using). Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until asparagus is crisp-tender.

  5. 5

Return the beef to the wok. Pour in the prepared black pepper sauce mixture. Stir-fry constantly for about 1 minute until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and vegetables evenly.

  6. 6

Serve hot immediately with steamed rice.
